Tom Hancocks invented motorized roller skates during World War II to aid foot-weary soldiers. In a recent demonstration, Reg was seen zipping through suburban streets with his daughter seated on the back. Although the skates have a large engine, they are fuel-efficient and can run up to 160 miles on a single gallon. Tom gave his daughter a lift to work and even stopped to work on the skates. The skates are quite an eccentric invention, but they have caught people's attention since they were featured in a 1944 New Pictorial story titled "Auto Skates" (NSP 498).
